Live life well

Engadine Public School is part of the Live Life Well initiative.  Staff have been involved in training and are keen to implement initiatives which promote healthy living. One of these is "Crunch and Sip"

Crunch and Sip is a set break for children to eat fruit or salad vegetables and drink water in the classroom. They are encouraged to have this healthy snack while they are working at their table. Research has shown that drinking water and eating fruit and vegetables is essential for good health and can help concentration throughout the day.

Students participate in Crunch and Sip by bringing in a water bottle and a piece of fruit or vegetable each day. Suggested Crunch and Sip ideas are - cut up, non messy fruit eg. apple, grapes, strawberries, etc or vegetable eg. carrot sticks, celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, etc.  Please remember, that this is only a small, healthy snack that students will have mid-morning. (No fruits in juices, roll ups, packet type fruits are encouraged. Please choose fresh fruits/vegetables.)

Students are encouraged to bring another piece of fruit or vegetable for their morning tea break and a healthy lunch. It's recommended that children have 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables every day to maintain good health.  (See the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating below)

A helpful pamphlet from the Health Department explains the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for all family members, and can be found at this link:  Health benefits-active life
